The Answer is to use Recycled News-Paper Bags..
Facts & Analysis:
News papers as it is reach millions of households in India.
...and they do get recycled... but this process is not without leaving an additional carbon footprint... , they are collected from homes through scrap dealers who bring them in environment polluting vehicles and then taken to factories where they undergo elaborate processes which further pollute the environment and this produces recycled paper... and this paper finally again will go to garbage...
Fortunately newspaper is biodegradable... unlike plastic which is not bio-degradable and lasts for more than 300 years without decomposing at all.. today in India ... most of the garbage is packed in all sizes of plastic bags and then discarded... and this has lead to dumping ground being full of them with unbearable stink and with delayed decomposing of garbage and no decomposing of the innumerable plastic bags... many many many garbage land fills are now FULL with no more capacity... but the population is producing garbage by the tons daily....., these garbage land fills dare not be burned ... they will produce intense toxic fumes destroying the complete populations health.
One of the key solutions is recycled News Paper Bags.., this is not the entire solution but a strong component of it.
Why it has not been successful so far & what we can do to make it successful...
to make recycled news-paper bags is a cost.., collecting them, the logistics of bringing them to one place.. the transport is a cost and again a pollutant, then the human skill & power or combined human skill & power and machine skill & power to make the news papers in to bags.., and then its redistribution.., this process raises the cost of the news paper bags to being not commercial, a recycled news paper bag which is lesser in holding strength ends up costing between Rs. 1 - Rs. 3 as compared to a more sturdy plastic bag which is also water proof and costs just 10 - 15 paise!!!
So what do we do about it.., Yes there is an Answer - We eliminate the COSTS!
Educational Institutions - the Schools & Colleges.. have students who have families and homes where in come the NewsPapers..,
The Solution
Every student every day donates 2- 3 minutes of their time in the entire day! to make just one recycled paper bag and bring it to school/college
a school with 2000 students will bring in 2000 bags every day.. so in a month - 60000 (sixty thousand bags!)
the school then forms a student group which goes out and gives these bags to retail out lets free of cost urging them to now stop the use of plastic bags and instead use these recycled news paper bags.
from the retailer's commercial view point this makes good sense because he saves on the cost of the plastic bags which he has to purchase and instead he gets free - recycled news paper bags.,
This is an all India project and therefore all Educational Institutions across India are urged to participate and do their bit to CHANGE!
Activity 2 : Clean Safe Drinking Water : http://agua.drivingdreams.in/
We appeal to you.. safe drinking water is a problem in many parts of India, specially now for the flood affected Uttarakhand.
The United Nations has marked 2013 as the International Year of Water Co-operation
We are supporting Wockhardt Foundation's efforts..

Economies of scale prohibit us from making these accessibly priced to start with.., Each Educational Institution pledging to us our support in acquiring just one would set an exemplary trend for other to follow suit and use these GEV's for local area commute, Students groups could be formed to take these out on specific days representing each Educational Institution with the educational institution's branding...
The Educational Institutions own the responsibility of nurturing the change starting with the students... leading to their families...which in turn ... turn the society around!
The Rewards:
A cleaner & healthier environment for everyone! what more would you want... but ... there is more...
as all life is a great chain ... by reducing the use of plastics.. we improve our environment we live in.., we reduce the import of crude petroleum , and do our small bit to help our Currency from devaluing further...which further results in many more positive changes in our Country, in our environment & for our Earth!
&
On a national level with all the Educational Institutions participating we will make impressive impact in reducing our carbon footprint our all three activities combined will be eligible as a Clean Development Mechanism and we will qualify for Carbon Credits which when received will all be used in strengthening our commitment and efforts for a CHANGE!
Come motivate yourself... to walk with us... and make that change!
